HORICON, Wis. (CBS 58) — Students in the Fond du Lac Police Department's Youth Advocacy Program brought history to life during a recent visit to the Horicon Marsh Explorium.

Participants learned how Horicon Marsh, one of Wisconsin's most prominent natural areas, has transformed from the Ice Age through today.

Police said the experience encouraged curiosity, questions and meaningful conversations among the students.

School Resource Officers Keywon Brown and Travis Tuttle joined the trip alongside Community Youth Advocate Carrie Ahrens. The department said the program helps officers and advocates build positive relationships with young people both inside and outside the classroom.

The group ended the day with lunch at Culver's.

"At the Fond du Lac Police Department, we believe some of the most important work we do happens long before an emergency call," the department wrote in a social media post. "By investing in our young people through positive experiences, trusted relationships, and opportunities to learn and grow, we're helping build confidence, strengthen connections, and shape a brighter future for our entire community."
