Former Bucks guard Malik Beasley indicted in federal sports betting investigation
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Former Milwaukee Bucks guard Malik Beasley has been indicted on federal charges stemming from an alleged sports betting scheme.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Beasley is accused of participating in a scheme involving point shaving and prop bets. Federal authorities are coordinating a voluntary surrender later this week.
The federal indictment outlines Beasley telling other defendants how he would perform in games in relation to his prop bets.
Beasley allegedly altered his performance during three games in the 2023-2024 season, as others bet tens of thousands of dollars.
“What Malik Beasley has done is unacceptable on every single level as a player," former UW-Madison basketball player Brian Butch said. "Bucks fans say, well, how many more games did it impact, how many more games did they throw?”
Beasley spent the 2023-24 season with the Milwaukee Bucks, appearing in 79 games while making 77 starts. He averaged 11.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game during his lone season in Milwaukee.
He later joined the Detroit Pistons for the 2024-25 season, where he finished as the runner-up for the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year award.
No additional details about the indictment were immediately released.
