Former Lomira fire chief faces misconduct and theft charges
LOMIRA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Authorities have arrested former Lomira Fire Chief Keith Joas on allegations of misconduct in public office and theft.
The Dodge County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday, Sept. 18 that 40-year-old Joas faces two counts of misconduct in public office and one count of theft.
The investigation began Feb. 15 after the village reported allegations following Joas's termination on Feb. 13.
Investigators allege that Joas used his position within the Village of Lomira to obtain items for personal use using taxpayer funds. Detectives collaborated with village officials to analyze financial records and conduct a thorough investigation.
Sheriff Dale Schmidt expressed disappointment over the suspected violation of public trust, emphasizing his belief that public employees should be held accountable and held to a "higher standard."
