MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- It's a building you may have driven past and not even noticed, but it now has a spot in the National Register of Historic Places.
We're talking about the old North Milwaukee High School at 37th and Custer on the north side.
The school, which is now vacant, was built in two phases during the 1920s, back when there actually was a city called North Milwaukee.
It's considered an excellent example of what's known as a progressive era high school, and it shows the importance that North Milwaukee placed on modern and well-equipped schools.
It later became Custer High School and then Edison Middle School.
The National Register of Historic Places is America's official list of buildings worthy of preserving.
