Four killed in public park shooting in Menasha

Police in Menasha, Wisconsin say a man upset over a fight with his girlfriend shot four people at a public park unprovoked before shooting and killing himself. Three of the victims died from their wounds, including a father and his young daughter. The girl's mother was also shot but survived. No police officers fired their weapons during the incident and investigators believe the shooter acted alone. Police also say the shootings appear to be random in nature.

Menasha Police identified the victims as 31-year old Jonathan Stoffel, 11-year old Olivia Stoffel, and 31 year old Adam Bentdahl. 32-year old Erin Stoffel underwent emergency surgery for three gunshot wounds. Doctors are hopeful she will be able to recover.

The shooter has been identified as 27-year old Sergio Valencia del Toro. Del Toro was a UW-Oshkosh student with a history in the United States Air Force. Police said Del Toro had recently re-enlisted in the armed forces and had expressed interest in joining the Menasha Police Auxiliary Unit.

The incident happened around 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 3rd at Trestle Trail Bridge in the City of Menasha.

\"For the Fox Cities, this is kind of the end of the innocence,\" said physician Ray Georgan who treated the victims.

Family and friends gathered for a vigil to remember the innocent family, and pray for the recovery of the mother who despite her wounds, managed to get her other two children to safety.
