A Milwaukee police officer and his family are hoping to rebuild their lives after a fire tore through their home.
Steven Kuspa has been part of the Milwaukee Police Department for 15 years. His wife Jennifer is a registered nurse at Wisconsin Children's Hospital.
Both of them are used to helping others, but now they need it in return.
Those closest to them gathered for a fundraiser at Bier & Burgers in Hales Corners to help them get back on their feet.
Two weeks ago, their beloved home caught fire. The cause has not been determined.
Nothing could be saved, greatly impacting them and their two young daughters. “We currently are not able be at the house due to the amount of damage on the inside, so for the time being, we're staying at another place," Steven said.
Family, friends and coworkers knew they had to be there for them. “Steve’s my partner at work. He's a police officer, I'm a police officer with him and he's done a lot for me and my family. We felt this was the least we could do for them," said Officer John Larson.
As people bought raffle items in hopes of raising lots of money, the family is taken aback by the show of support.
"It's incredible. My husband and I have always tried to be there for everyone else and to have to now accept the help, it's very overwhelming, but there's so much love in this room and we're just so grateful for every person in this room," Jennifer added.
