MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- This weekend, a local brewery is raising awareness for pancreatic cancer one beer at a time, after a devastating diagnosis.
Kyle and Stephanie Vetter opened 1840 Brewing Company in Bay View seven years ago.
Just a few weeks ago, Stephanie was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. 1840 hosted a fundraiser to pay for her care on Saturday, Dec. 7.
The brewery was packed, with people taking part in a silent auction for beer baskets from other local brewers. Flour Child Pizza came in to supply the food and special shirts were on sale.
Kyle says the support has been overwhelming.
"I almost started crying immediately. I was like 'oh my God, I haven't even walked in the door and I'm already gonna be a mess.' But it's so touching. Just the texts, the calls, the emails, the anonymous donations, people just coming into the tap room, it's been amazing," said Kyle Vetter.
Kyle and Stephanie have a GoFundMe up right now. People have donated more than $70,000. If you would like to donate, click here.
