GERMANTOWN, Wis. (CBS 58) – Germantown Police say a man is in custody following an incident Wednesday morning.

Authorities were called to a home near Williams Dr. and Pilgrim Rd. around 5:00 a.m. for a report of gunshots.

Police say a man in his seventies shot a gun two times outside of the home. Authorities negotiated with the man for an hour, before he was arrested. During this time, neighbors were told to go in their basements and a large perimeter was blocked off. Two nearby schools also delayed classes.

Police say the man has mental health issues and don't believe anyone was targeted.

"He did point at a vehicle and we're still looking into what actually he shot, whether it was in the air, in the ground, or if he hit any houses," says Germantown Police Chief Peter Hoell.

"T see that it was a little scary. It was good to see that they were protective of us and our neighbors to make sure everything was done peacefully," neighbor Jim Ulickey said.

Authorities said the man lives alone and no one was in the home at the time. They do not believe anyone was hurt.
