Giannis Antetokounmpo named NBA All-Star starter and captain

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo is once again an NBA All-Star and for the third time, a captain, who gets to select his team for the 2023 NBA All-Star Game.

The starters and captains were announced by the league on NBA on TNT Thursday night. Antetokounmpo earned captain status for getting the most fan votes in the Eastern Conference. All-Star starters are selected by fans, players and coaches.

This is the seventh straight year Antetokounmpo has been voted an All-Star starter and the third time he is a captain. Antetokounmpo has now passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most All-Star selections in Bucks franchise history.

Antetokounmpo is fourth in the league averaging a career-high 31 points per game, as well as 12 rebounds and 5.3 assists.

The All-Star reserves will be announced on Thursday, Feb. 2 and for the first time, the All-Star draft will happen right before the game on Sunday, Feb. 19. The All-Star game will be played in Salt Lake City, Utah this season.
