MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Giannis Antetokounmpo and his partner Mariah Riddlesprigger are doing something special to celebrate the birth of their second child.

To celebrate the birth of Maverick Shai Antetokounmpo and help Milwaukee-area families in need, they're putting on Maverick's Diaper Mission.

It's a diaper drive that will run from Nov. 14 through the 21st.

It's in collaboration with the Milwaukee Diaper Mission, the Milwaukee Bucks and baby brand Nuna. After the announcement was made on social media Wednesday, the response has been overwhelming.

"I thought it would just be like you know, a normal diaper drive and then you realize like oh, well your platform is a little bigger than you think it is," said Riddlesprigger.

The couple recently visited the Milwaukee Diaper Mission, meeting with founder Meagan Johnson.

"As a family, they are just so lovely," said Johnson. "They're very family focused, they spend so much time with their children and really put them first before anything else."

And they got a chance to learn just how big that need is.

"One in three families struggles to afford diapers in the United States."

"It's a resource that shouldn't be as expensive as it is, it should be -- that's a basic need."

They found out Thursday that Huggies is getting in the game, donating $25,000 and a quarter-million diapers.

"When they heard about our exciting event coming up next week, they decided to jump on board," Johnson said.

"It's going to be a big change for Milwaukee Diaper Mission, which is going to be a big change for Milwaukee, so I'm really excited," said Riddlesprigger.

To donate, bring diapers to Fiserv Forum during these home games:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 17
  • Friday, Nov. 19
  • Saturday, Nov. 20

You can also make a monetary donation and Nuna will match up to $25,000.

The Milwaukee Diaper Mission says they're currently looking to expand to a larger warehouse space in the greater Milwaukee area to better serve more families.

If you or your organization is interested in partnering to donate warehouse space, send them an email
