NOW: Girls and STEM event held at Discovery World

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Young girls got hands on experience on what it's like to be a future scientist or engineer on Sunday, March 2.

It was for the Girls and STEM event at Discovery World.

Northwestern Mutual and Rockwell Automation helped inspire the future community leaders.

More than 20 exhibitors and organizations were there to talk to the girls and show them what it is like to be a woman in STEM.

They talked about things like artificial intelligence and coding.

The vice president for external affairs at Discovery World tells us that representation is important.

"It's really important for those girls to see that they can be leaders, they can be scientists, they can be engineers, they can be anything that they want to be and that they belong," said Rese Schnider, vice president for external affairs at Discovery World.

Schnider says this event is also important for boys to see that girls can be leaders as well.
