Milwaukee's Meta House awarded $4.9 million for opioid treatment expansion

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has awarded $10 million to three organizations for the construction of spaces designed to provide treatment and recovery support services for women with opioid use disorder.

Meta House, located in Milwaukee, will receive $4.91 million of the funding to expand its existing residential treatment program for women.

The Meta House project aims to serve an additional 60 women upon completion in 2024, addressing the current waitlist for admission. The grant is funded by Wisconsin's share of the National Prescription Opiate Litigation settlement funds managed by DHS, received last year.

The other two funded projects include Arbor Place, which will establish the first residential treatment facility in western Wisconsin for pregnant women and mothers, and Lighthouse Recovery Community Center, creating a safe and stable housing environment for pregnant women and mothers while they participate in outpatient treatment in northeast Wisconsin.

These one-time grants cover construction costs only, with the funded organizations being responsible for staffing, program supplies and materials related to service delivery.
