Grafton man charged, accused of shooting wife after she met with divorce attorney
Ozaukee County Sheriff\'s Office GRAFTON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Grafton man has been criminally charged after allegedly shooting his wife multiple times when she returned from a meeting with her divorce attorney.
Fifty-three-year-old Guy Paider faces one count attempted first-degree intentional homicide and one count first-degree recklessly endangering safety.
According to court documents, Paider's wife told detectives she met with her divorce attorney on the day of the shooting. She said Paider began asking what she wanted in the divorce when she got home, before becoming violent - grabbing her arms, throwing her to the floor, covering her mouth, and carrying her into the bedroom.
She told investigators he grabbed a gun from a drawer and said, "Look at me, so you can see me when I shoot you," according to a criminal complaint.
Police responded to Paider's home in response to a 911 call. According to the complaint, officers heard the woman screaming from a locked back bedroom and kicked the bedroom door open just before hearing multiple gunshots. Believing the shots were being fired toward them, officers retreated down the hallway and ordered the occupants to show their hands.
The complaint says a man, later identified as Paider, said he was coming out with his hands up. One officer took Paider into custody while another provided aid to the woman.
Prosecutors say she was shot multiple times and flown by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital. A semi-automatic handgun was found in the bedroom as well as four bullets and four spent casings.
Following his arrest, court documents say Paider was committed to Winnebago Mental Health Institute.
Paider retired from the West Allis Fire Department earlier this year.
