Grafton police pursuit ends with suspect apprehended, stolen gun and drugs recovered

GRAFTON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A traffic stop in Grafton turned into a pursuit Thursday morning, Jan. 14. 

Grafton police say around 7:10 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop on Wisconsin Avenue, near Falls Drive. As the vehicle turned into a parking lot, police say the driver and only occupant, threw a handgun out the window. 

While the officer awaited assistance, the driver fled and a pursuit ensued. 

According to police, the chase ended when the fleeing driver crashed with another vehicle in downtown Cedarburg -- at the intersection of Columbia and Washington Avenue. The suspect then fled on foot. 

Police say after a short foot pursuit, the suspect was apprehended without incident. He was identified as a resident of Milwaukee. 

An investigation revealed the gun was stolen. Officers also located drugs inside the suspect's vehicle. 

The Wisconsin State Patrol is handling the investigation of the crash. Officials say neither the suspect or the motorist he struck were injured in the crash.
