Green Bay Packers announce partnership aimed at increasing battery recycling

GREEN BAY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Green Bay Packers, the Department of Energy and Batteries Plus announced a new partnership Friday aimed at increasing battery recycling.

Batteries can of course be dangerous when improperly stored or disposed, and many people both in Wisconsin and around the country aren't aware of the right way to dispose of these batteries.

But Batteries Plus says the partnership will hopefully get the word out on proper procedure.

"The Packers were really looking to do something right for America, and most Americans want to do the right thing. but they have battery drawers, and they don't know where to dispose of those batteries," said Scott Williams, CEO of Batteries Plus. "They can come to Batteries Plus and we'll take them in, easy, convenient, no charge."

Batteries Plus has more than a dozen locations throughout Wisconsin.

The Department of Energy is also giving about $7 million to help with the nationwide effort.
