MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – The Milwaukee County Zoo activated its animal escape protocol after two grizzly bears were reported in a secondary containment area, around 5:00 p.m. Thursday.
The Zoo said an unsecured door allowed the bears to enter the second containment area in the grizzly service location. The few remaining visitors (the Zoo closes at 5:00 p.m.) were secured in Zoo buildings. The Zoo says visitors were not in danger and the bears did not enter a public space.
The Zoo says the bears had to be lured back with food into the grizzly holding area of the building. The all clear was given at around 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
