Hales Corners police alerts residents about mail voter registration scam

HALES CORNERS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Hales Corners Police Department warned residents about a scam on Wednesday, Sept. 18. 

According to police, some residents are receiving paperwork about voter registration. The envelopes have a return address from Austin, Texas. 

Police say the documents look authentic and goes to the extent of putting names and addresses pre-filled to send back on forms. They say even though it looks real, it is not from the village and says it is a scam attempting to obtain information. 

Police say if you receive one to discard it.
