MILWAUKEE (CBS58) -- Cyber Monday shoppers are expected to set records Monday, Dec. 2, spending billions on their holiday shopping.

It's one of the biggest shopping days of the year.

"Over 72 million people who are taking advantage of deals," said Tiffany Schultz, Southwest Wisconsin Regional Director, Better Business Bureau

Tiffany Schultz with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) says almost 40% of holiday shoppers are continuing their shopping spree into the week.

"Consumers are going to be spending $902 dollars per person during this holiday shopping season which is reaching breaking," said Schultz.

While shoppers watch for scams and illegitimate websites, Schultz says people often believe they are getting the best deal.

"You definitely want to price check before you buy, just because it says it's a deal doesn't necessarily mean it's a deal," Schultz explained.

Before adding that next item to the cart, consider helping someone in the community during Giving Tuesday.

"You're giving back in a way that is helping someone see another tomorrow," said Ericka Kelly, Director of Development at Rooted and Rising.

Rooted & Rising in Washington Park helps families meet their basic needs.

"Kids waiting on the bus stop going to school and not adequately dressed for the weather it's heartbreaking," said Bill Schmitt, Executive Director of Rooted and Rising

Executive Director Bill Schmitt says while the need never ends, it spikes during the winter months.

"It's also a time when we see heightened needs, in particular around food security," Schmitt explained.

The nonprofit is looking for donations year-round but right now they need winter clothing.

"Through our community food center, we accept donations of exterior winter items. Either new or very lightly used and cleaned and we will make sure that it gets out to the community," said Schmitt.

Rooted and Rising is looking for winter items like gloves, jackets, and hats.
