WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Tuesday, Jan. 7, was deadline day for people who've been staying in what's become a homeless encampment next to Frame Park in Waukesha.
They were told three weeks ago that they've been staying on private property, and they need to leave.
According to Waukesha Mayor Shawn Reilly, the property owners and police showed up Tuesday and two people were still there. Now they're gone, and it's up to the property owners to keep the area clear.
"Their representative has indicated that they'll be monitoring the property, and if people come back on, they will tell 'em to leave," said Mayor Reilly. "If they won't leave, they'll contact our police department. At that point, it'll be trespassing."
Mayor Reilly says the encampment created a lot of garbage on the property.
He also says nonprofit groups have been notified about the order to leave and they've been offering services to the people who've been camping there.
