MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Parents play a pivotal role in the learning process of their children, so what are some best practices for supporting their learning?
Dr. Lauren Starnes, Chief Academic Officer at the Goddard School, joined us on Thursday, June 1 to highlight some key methods for parents to bolster their children's ongoing cognitive and social-emotional development.
Among the strategies discussed by Starnes was encouraging a questioning spirit in children emerged as a pivotal aspect. Research suggests that active engagement with an attentive adult can prompt preschool-aged children to ask more questions, which facilitates interest-driven learning.
Starnes also mentioned the importance of parental participation in their children's playtime. Contrary to popular belief, playtime serves as a learning platform where children can develop social and emotional skills while interacting with their peers.
Also, parents are encouraged to acknowledge and reinforce their children's interests. By focusing on what children are exploring, parents can create a learning environment that enhances knowledge retention.
