WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Now that we've reached the month of November, thoughts are turning to that traditional Thanksgiving turkey dinner just a few weeks away.
It also means that Milwaukee's Hunger Task Force is making a holiday push to feed local families.
On Tuesday, the food bank kicked off its annual Turkey Ticker challenge. They're asking us to donate turkeys for holiday dinners, and it's a matching drive.
Every turkey donated will be matched bird-for-bird with a donation from the Zum Elkay Water Solutions company.
Some turkeys have already been donated. They were loaded into a giant freezer Tuesday morning.
Hunger Task Force hopes to collect 2,000 turkeys during the month of November.
"If we get 1,000 turkeys donated, that means 2,000. If Elkay can do more, that would be great. So please be generous. Times are tough right now, obviously. With inflation and recession, things are difficult, but we want to really make sure that people get the help that they need," said Sherrie Tussler, Hunger Task Force.
If you'd like to help, you can drop off turkeys at the Hunger Task Force dock at 50th and Electric Avenue, or you can make a donation online at Hungertaskforce.org.
You can also watch the Turkey Ticker online to see how close they're getting to that 2,000-turkey goal.
