MILWAUKEE (CBS 58/AP) – A 24-year-old West Allis has come forward as the winner of the $768.4 million Powerball Jackpot.
Manuel Franco says he had a "lucky feeling" when he bought the winning ticket at the Speedway in New Berlin on March 27. He says when he bought the ticket, he looked at the security camera and wanted to wink, but didn't.
Franco said he didn't know he was a winner until the next day and went to work before checking his tickets.
Franco recounted that he nearly missed the winning ticket while going through his other tickets. When checking the winning ticket, he said he knew it was something special when he matched the first number. When he realized he had the winning ticket, Franco said his heart was racing and that he was "going insane."
Franco says he quit his job a couple days after learning he was the winner. He declined to say where he worked.
Franco says he decided to take the cash option lump sum of $477 million. He says he plans to be wise about spending his money and wants to "help out the world."
