GRAFTON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Authorities say the incident started around 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1.
Deputies said they tried to pull someone over and arrest them for outstanding felony warrants. The suspect took off in a vehicle after deputies tried to stop them. After pulling out stop-sticks to pop the tires, the suspect's vehicle stopped on the side of the road, near Lakefield Rd in Grafton.
The subject fled on foot to a nearby tree line and was pursued by law enforcement.
Phill Marcott says he was getting ready for work when he heard the police sirens go off.
"Normally we don't hear sirens, we're kind of out in the boonies a little bit, so just the sirens alone was slightly concerning," said Marcott.
According to the Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office, the person took out a weapon and a deputy shot the suspect.
The subject died at the scene, and officials said they found a gun. No members of law enforcement were injured.
The person has not been identified, and the deputy who shot the suspect has been placed on administrative leave.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice and the Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation.
