'It’s going to be a 48-minute fist fight': Wisconsin high school football teams eye state championship title

GRAFTON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Anticipation is in the air, as the countdown to the WIAA State Football Championships nears its end.

“It’s going to be a 48-minute fist fight,” said Jim Norris, the head football coach for Grafton High School.

St. Joseph Catholic Academy and Grafton High school are among the four in our area readying for Camp Randall.

Grafton’s High School Football team says they are ready to put up a fight to take home the Division Three State title.

“This really comes down to us as a team,” said Maximus Glab, a Grafton High School football senior. “We’ve been working so hard together and it’s really just teamwork.”

Feeling hopeful and hungry for redemption after missing the mark at Camp Randall in 2023, this team has something prove. Their community says they will continue to cheer for them every step of the way.

In Kenosha, its high hopes, full hallways and loud cheers for St. Joseph Catholic Academy's Football team, with their eyes on the Division Seven State trophy.

"Could potentially be the first ever WIAA State Football Championship, so really exciting for that," said Matt Rizzo, the head football coach at St. Joseph Catholic Academy.

The Lancers hoping to make history and finish the season undefeated.

“For us seniors, some of us might not ever play football again, so just leave it all out there and play as hard as we can," said Berkley Kuiper, a St. Joseph Catholic Academy football Senior.

St. Joseph will play Thursday at 10 a.m.

Grafton takes to the field on Friday at 10 a.m.
