KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Around 10 homes in a northwest Kenosha neighborhood had their basements flooded over the weekend during a Sunday morning storm.

Homes along 48th Avenue, 47th Avenue and 41st Street saw anywhere from 2 inches to 2 feet of water in their basements.

But it was not just water -- it was sewage water that contained feces, toilet paper and more.

“We had dirty water, sewage, come through our basements,” Kenosha resident Kurt Roemer said. “We had neighbors that had over two feet of raw sewage in our basements.”

On Tuesday night, crews continued to clear carpet and other belongings from basements throughout the neighborhood.

“It looked like a bubbler coming up through the drain, we didn’t know how dirty it was, but they cleaned it up already. There was fecal matter down there, it’s terrible,” Roemer said.

Neighbors say the city’s water department came out on Sunday and cleared the water, but they have not been heard from since.

“There was two or three guys that went into that manhole cover and they did something out there, because as soon as they did something, all the water that was in our basement started going back in the drain,” Roemer said. “It’s a lot of money to fix that and we get no help.”

CBS 58 was not able to get in touch with the water department Tuesday night.
