K9 Nitro retires after 9 years of service
RACINE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Racine County Sheriff's Office celebrated the retirement of K9 Nitro this week after nine years of service.
K9 Nitro's last shift was on Wednesday, Oct. 27.
K9 Nitro was born on Oct. 10, 2012 in Hungary.
K9 Nitro had multiple achievements throughout his nine-year career, including the 2015 Narcotics Challenge Champion at the Annual Wisconsin Law Enforcement Canine Working Conference.
In addition, K9 Nitro has also been a part of crucial criminal investigations and his work has helped solve key cases.
On top of his successful work in the field, K9 Nitro has also made visits to schools and numerous community functions. Police say K9 Nitro always loved the attention of children and others around him who just wanted to say "hi".
During retirement, K9 Nitro will reside with his partner, Sgt. Ruffalo.
