Keeping your cool when the weather turns dangerously hot

CBS

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The weather maps are all lit up these days with various heat advisories and warnings.  Bottom line is we'll be seeing intense heat and humidity through Tuesday.  This could actually be the hottest stretch of summer weather we've experienced most of the season.  It's actually kind of interesting how we've not even officially hit 90 degrees in August, and it only happened once in July, the last day of the month.

When the weather turns extreme, common sense becomes more important than ever.  In terms of heat safety, there are few steps you can take to make sure you're doing all the right things like drinking lots of water, avoiding the sun as best you can, cool down as much as you can, wear loose-fitted clothing like cotton, and minimize heat in general, such as hot drinks.  If you work outside, it's very important you take frequent breaks.  Wet towels around the neck help cool you down and can work wonders. If you don't have air conditioning, find a place that does like a cooling center or library.
