Kenosha County mother charged in 2022 homicide of 6-year-old daughter
Kenosha County Sheriff\'s Office KENOSHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Six-year-old Layla Stahl was found dead inside her bedroom on 15th Place in Kenosha back in 2022. Now, nearly four years after her death, Stahl's mother has been charged with her death.
According to the Kenosha County Sheriff's Office, at the time of Stahl's death, there were no obvious signs of trauma or foul play. The medical examiner determined the cause and manner of death to be undetermined.
In July of 2024, detectives were involved in a separate investigation involving Stahl's mother, 33-yar-old Christina Torchia. During the investigation, officials say Torchia attempted to solicit the homicide of another person. She later pled guilty to solicitation of first degree intentional homicide and was sentenced to the maximum penalty.
In early 2026, officials re-examined Stahl's death and developed new information regarding her death.
On March 12, Torchia was interviewed and officials identified numerous inconsistencies and statements contradicted by evidence.
A court order was then obtained to amend Stahl's manner of death to homicide, and it was approved.
As a result, Torchia was charged with first degree intentional homicide.
