KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Kenosha couple is thanking social media for getting their stolen car back.
Musician Jason Kent was loading up his SUV after a performance at Capt Mikes earlier this month. Kent left his car running for just a few minutes, but a thief managed to jump in the driver's seat and take off. Surveillance video from the bar shows a man run toward the car before driving off.
“He was running fast for it. He knew what he was going for,” Jason Kent said.
Kent ran after the thief, but the man got away. The newly married couple took to Facebook, to let everyone know what happened.
“Within 12 hours it was up to like 1,000 shares,” Kent said.
The post ultimately got more than 1,500 shares. Kent said it was shared not only in Kenosha but in Madison, Green Bay, and even Chicago. A few days later, a Facebook friend sent him a message saying she saw his post and realized Kent's car was parked on her block. It was about a mile and a half from the bar.
Kent is now thanking his Facebook friends and the Kenosha community.
“It's very comforting to know that we have so many people in the community that will pull together to look out for each other,” Kent said.
Kenosha Police haven't found the thief yet.
The car was not damaged at all and nothing, including their musical equipment, inside the vehicle was taken.
