MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Lloyd Street School on 12th and Lloyd was converted into a holiday bake shop on Monday, Dec. 18. Students from Milwaukee College Prep were there to put packages of Christmas cookies together for delivery to seniors who live near the school.
It looked like the young bakers had a great time and the chief education officer at Milwaukee Prep says there are academic lessons to be learned from the session.
"From an academic standpoint, our kids get an opportunity to really build on the math and the reading and apply that to the baking, apply that to the ratios used to make the cookies, to make the mixtures. And then beyond that, just to get a chance to apply those character skills that we teach our kids," said Alfred Keith, CEO of Milwaukee College Prep.
Monday's agenda also included delivery of the cookies and Christmas caroling.
