OZAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) – A math teacher at Lake Shore Middle School has resigned after the Mequon-Thiensville School District says they learned she had allegedly been involved in an inappropriate relationship while teaching at another school in Dallas, Texas.

Below is the statement released by the school district’s Superintendent, Matthew Joynt on January 23:

“Earlier today, the District learned that one of our middle school teachers had allegedly been involved in an inappropriate relationship with a student while teaching at a Dallas high school in 2014 and 2015. I and the District’s executive director of human capital immediately met with the teacher and placed her on administrative leave. She submitted her resignation a short time later, and we have informed parents of the situation.

“We place the highest priority on the safety and well-being of our students and have zero tolerance for this type of conduct. The teacher joined the District in August 2017, and there was no indication of any problem or inappropriate activity during her very short time here. Additionally, we conducted a rigorous background check prior to her hire, including a national criminal background check. All references were positive, and there was no indication of the situation in Texas on her record.

“We are confident that none of our students were involved in this situation. We took swift and immediate action as soon as we learned of the Texas matter, and we continue to be committed to doing everything we can to ensure a safe learning environment for our students.”

This is a developing story. Stay tuned to CBS 58 online and on-air for more information.
