Police and 37-year-old suspect exchange gunfire near 21st and North

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee police officer exchanged shots with a suspect late Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Police say they initially heard shots near 21st and North while patrolling the area at around 11:18 p.m. ShotSpotter alerts were also registered at the same location, at the same time.

When officers arrived, a suspect allegedly fired shots towards an officer, with the officer returning fire. Police say that no officers or bystanders were injured during the exchange.

The 37-year-old suspect was found and arrested after a tactical setup was established and his building was swept.

While MPD says the investigation is ongoing, they are referring criminal charges to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Police appear to be conducting a large investigation near 20th and North early Thursday, Oct. 17, where the area is currently taped off.

CBS 58's crew at the scene is seeing drones being used and has heard officials calling for a suspect to come out of a building. The nature of the incident has not been disclosed by officials.

Efforts to reach the Milwaukee Police Department for more details have been made.
