Lincoln Avenue teachers settle into Pulaski HS ahead of school year
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - Earlier this summer, Lincoln Avenue Elementary went up in flames and was destroyed.
“It was a really hard time for me during summer, just to see like everything was gone at that point,” Lincoln teacher Gustavo Yanez said. “To see our old memories around everything we have built for our kids.”
For the 2026-2027 school year, teachers and students will be moved to Pulaski High School, less than two miles away from Lincoln.
“Even though we’re in a new space, I know that my kids will feel welcome in here and they’ll say this is Ms. Soto’s room, we’ll be comfortable and fine,” Lincoln teacher Angelie-Marie Soto said.
On Tuesday, teachers received a collection of school supplies thanks to Milwaukee Public Schools and other supporting partners.
“I’m very grateful for the response that I’ve seen. Most of these decorations actually came from donations because I wouldn’t have been able to do it on my own,” Soto said.
While teachers will spend the end of the summer prepping their new rooms, students will return to the classroom next Tuesday, Sept. 1.
“We will face everything we have, face any issue and just keep going and moving forward. That’s what Lincoln is gonna teach these kids this year,” Yanez said.
