SHEBOYGAN, Wis (CBS 58) -- The City of Sheboygan says it is actively working to respond to and investigate a network issue on Sunday, Nov. 10, that resulted in a demand for a ransom.
In a statement, city leaders said an external party had unauthorized access to their network. They added they have not discovered evidence that any sensitive personal information has been compromised by this incident. However, it was unclear what other information was compromised.
The city is working with local law enforcement in response to the ransom.
The statement read in part, "We understand that this incident may cause concern, and we thank our employees, residents, and partners for their understanding and patience as we work through this situation. We remain committed to upholding our standards of trust and security, will provide further updates as necessary."
As of Sunday evening, parts of the City of Sheboygan's website are down.
City leaders say phone lines remain open for residents who need assistance or access to city services. The main city line is 920-459-4000.
The city said if any personal information is found to be compromised in the future, people will be notified as soon as possible.
