Local chocolate boutique introducing new holiday-exclusive flavors

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- One local chocolate boutique is embracing the holiday season by introducing four limited edition candies to their holiday catalog.

Fazio's Sweet Moments Sweet Life out of Olm Grove is offering 21 unique sweets available only during the holiday season, including four that are new, including a nod to Wisconsin, something for vegans, a hand-stamps snowflake and an elegantly outfitted classic.

Cindy Karrels, chocolatier and co-owner of Fazio's joined us on Tuesday, Dec. 13 to showcase this uniquely-Wisconsin candy.

The four new holiday flavors are described by Fazio's as being:

• Cheers from Wisconsin, inspired by Wisconsin’s favorite wintertime cocktail, the old-fashioned. A bourbon and orange ganache with bits of dried cherry is encased in a milk chocolate shell then topped with orange peel, dried cherry and rock candy — think muddled fruit and ice cubes.
• Merry & Bright, Karrels’ take on a chewy French confection called pâte de fruits. The classic version is intensely fruity — a fancy cousin to gummy bears or jelly candies and is vegan because it uses pectin. “I wanted to extend our vegan line a bit,” said Karrels. “And rather than the typical fruit flavor, this has flavors of the holiday with bright notes of red wine, orange fruit, cinnamon, and orange and lemon zest.” Karrels and her team hand-zest the fruit and hand-toss each bite of candy in sugar for a touch of sparkle.
• Fallen Snow, which starts with handcrafted marshmallow that’s flavored with a hint of local honey. This is dipped in chocolate and embellished with a hand-stamped white chocolate snowflake.
• Midnight Dream, cocoa nougat in a decadent dark chocolate shell that’s elegantly dressed up with silver crystal sugar. They bill the cocoa as being a special, high-end brand sourced from France.
