Local church welcomes children of all abilities to special trick-or-treat event

FRANKLIN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A church in Franklin welcomed children of all abilities to a new trick-or-treat event on Sunday.

Southbrook Church hosted its very first 'Special Friends Trick-or-Treat' event.

It's designed for children with special needs.

The event was free for families and gave kids a safe and accessible space to get some sweet treats.

"I think we had between 75 and 100 kids and we had about that many volunteers here, too. Families serving together, handing out candy and food, and doing activities with the kids," said Helen Ergen with Southbrook Church.

Southbrook Church hopes to host this event annually. They also put on easter egg hunts for children with special needs.
