Local couple celebrates 70 year anniversary, 90th birthday and Father's Day
CBS 58 WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- It isn't your typical Father's Day celebration for one local happy couple in West Allis.
"Loving, giving, they’re always there for anybody that needs them," said Dawna O'Haver, Carolyn and Don's daughter.
Those are the words that come to mind when O'Haver thinks of her parents Carolyn and Don Moncher.
"They are the bridge that holds the whole family together," said O'Haver. "They’re going to visit this one, or talking to that one, my dad‘s always on the phone with somebody."
You can find this happy couple as the first arrivals at First Lutheran Church in West Allis every Sunday.
However, this week as they arrived for what they thought would be a typical service on Father's Day, they received quite the surprise celebration.
"We always try to celebrate you know Father’s Day and my Mom’s birthday and their anniversary on the weekend after," said O'Haver. "We do a little family thing in our yard, but this year is more important to me because my mom turned 90 and then on Tuesday will be my parents' 70th anniversary."
Sundays service celebrated Don who is a father of four, Carolyn's 90th birthday, and of course you can't forget their latest milestone, 70 years of marriage.
"A lot of trips, a lot of years… what has it been 70 years?" said Don Moncher. "Got four nice kids, everything’s going fine."
The couple considers their church their second home and on Tuesday, they will be married the same amount of time the church was established in 1956.
"It’s like coming back home," said Don Moncher. "I know so many pastors that have worked here and a lot of nice people. It’s almost like coming back home for a visit with people."
Their secret to a long-lasting marriage?
"He listens," said Carolyn Moncher.
"Go fishing," said Don Moncher.
Grateful for their community surrounding them and the many more milestones to come.
