MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Hometown bookstores are highlighting national family literacy month, which is recognized in November.
On Saturday, Nov. 11, Niche Book Bar, and Rooted MKE partnered with HYFIN, a radio Milwaukee station. Together, they hosted a free event, the Family Literacy Fair.
Local literacy organizations were in attendance with the mission to promote literacy, education, and the joy of a good book.
"I really believe that literacy starts at home, so that's even before school with parents reading with children, but if also the children watching their parents read as well to really solidify the importance of reading," said Cetonia Weston-Roy, owner of Niche Book Bar.
The Family Literacy Fair also showcased a large selection of diverse books to browse and buy, along with story time sessions, and crafting opportunities.
