RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Racine family is grieving after their 17-year-old was shot and killed at a park Sunday, Oct. 4.
"RIP to my brother, he was my best friend, rest up," said Manuel Martinez, Samarion's best friend.
A camera near Lockwood Park captured several gunshots and people running away just after 1 a.m. Sunday morning.
"We were celebrating my sister's birthday," said Giselle Aranda, Samarion's sister. "The one that had passed eight months ago, in February. We were celebrating her birthday, and you know, one thing led to another, and it just ended all bad."
Aranda says her 17-year-old brother, Samarion Campbell, was shot and killed by a 16-year-old he knew at the park after an argument.
"It was just like little kids arguing, thinking they’re tough when they’re not," said Aranda. "They’re just little boys."
Racine police say the 16-year-old is in custody and being treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound.
Meanwhile, Samarion's family continues to grieve.
"I was mad, I was sad," said Aranda. "It was just like, I was going through -- still, like, I can’t go to sleep. It’s just like I’m just thinking a lot about it."
She says she wants to see justice for her brother, and the shooter held accountable.
"I want him to go to jail, like I feel like he needs to face the consequences of what he did to my brother, that's sick," said Aranda.
Samarion was a junior at Horlick High School and someone his friends and family say they could always lean on.
"He meant a lot to me," said Martinez. "He was like my brother. Anytime anything happened, he was always there for me. He always checked up on me, you know."
Racine police tell CBS 58 News charges of first-degree intentional homicide are being referred to the Racine County District Attorney's Office against the 16-year-old.
There will be a vigil for Samarion Tuesday night, Oct. 6, at 8:30 p.m. at Lockwood Park.
