WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Flowers are really a Mother's Day staple. A lot of moms are expecting them, so why not make them last as long as they can. I enlisted the help of Alfa Flower shop in Wauwatosa to get some helpful advice. Owner Katie Poulos says buying local is so important to ensure freshness, even if you're ordering for out of town locations. Also, cut the stems on a diagonal, only feed once, and change the water every few days. Many of the tropical flowers you buy are hearty and should last a few weeks.
Poulos says she'll be actually delivering on Mother's Day itself. Last year she did a hundred deliveries just on that day. She recommends ordering as soon as possible.
