Man accused in fatal shooting of transgender woman near 89th and Dogwood

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A 29-year-old man is accused of fatally shooting a trans woman near 89th and Dogwood in Milwaukee. 

Authorities have charged Antonio Currin with the following: 

  • First degree reckless homicide, use of a dangerous weapon 
  • Possession of a firearm by a felon 

Family identified the victim to CBS 58 as 30-year-old Chyna Long, and said she was visiting Milwaukee from Chicago the night of the murder. 

Milwaukee police say Long was found shot to death on the morning of Oct. 8. 

According to a criminal complaint, witness statements and surveillance footage led police to tie Currin to the murder. Currin was arrested during a traffic stop on Oct. 10. 

A motive for the shooting was not made clear in the criminal complaint. 

Currin's bail has been set at $150,000. 

He's due in court for a preliminary hearing on Oct. 24.
