Man charged in Racine cold case homicide pleads not guilty, bound over for trial

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The man accused in a Racine cold case homicide has been bound over for trial.

Records show 83-year-old Fred Wagner-Richardson pleaded not guilty in court Wednesday, April 10.

He's facing a first-degree murder charge, along with possession of a firearm by a felon.

Wagner-Richardson was formally charged in the 1987 murder of his wife, Derby Wagner-Richardson, after four decades.

In March of 1987, Derby Wagner-Richardson was found murdered in the trunk of her car after not reporting to her security guard job at Styberg Engineering. She was found bound with duct tape and bruises on her forehead.

She also had injuries to her wrist and neck -- which investigators say ultimately was the cause of her death.

Derby's murder came the same day she and Wagner-Richardson were finalizing their divorce.

A status conference is scheduled for July 12.
