Man sentenced to 30 years in death of beloved basketball coach

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A Milwaukee man convicted in the homicide of a beloved basketball coach was sentenced to 30 years in prison Monday, April 1.

Amardi Stotts pleaded guilty to a charge of first-degree reckless homicide for killing 48-year-old Dale Young near 69th and Carmen in July of 2023.

Surveillance video captured a white van, driven by Young, stopping alongside a red pickup truck, before multiple shots rang out from the truck.

Officials said Young suffered 15 gunshot wounds and died at an area hospital.

According to the criminal complaint, Young had gotten into a verbal argument with the ex-boyfriend of his niece. The complaint says the ex-boyfriend called Stotts, who pulled up with a gun.

Records show Stott's sentence is to be followed by 12 years of extended supervision.
