MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a deadly pedestrian crash involving a Milwaukee County bus that took place on Wednesday, Dec. 25 at around 10:30 p.m. near 47th and Villard.

Officials say a 79-year-old and a 37-year-old man were standing near a legally parked car on the north side of the street, attempting a repair, when both were struck along with the vehicle by the bus traveling westbound.

The 79-year-old identified as Robert Clemons, died from his injuries. The 37-year-old was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Milwaukee County Transit System confirmed there were no passengers on the bus at the time and won't comment beyond their statement they put out Thursday, saying they are cooperating with law enforcement to determine what lead up to the accident.

Neighbors in the area are uneasy after the tragic accident, saying they feel unsafe.

"I just think the bus drivers should be aware of who's around them, so they don’t get hurt," said bus rider, Anthony Jackson.

Milwaukee Police say the 51-year-old bus driver remained on scene and was arrested. He is currently in the Milwaukee County Jail and is facing a potential charge for negligent operation of a vehicle causing death.

The Milwaukee County District Attorneys' Office says this case is still under review.
