Marking 25 years of creating educational opportunities for first generation students

Mary Lou & Arthur F. Mahone Foundation

KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The May Lou and Arthur F. Mahone Foundation is celebrating 25 years serving southeastern Wisconsin.

The foundation is celebrating by having a fundraising tour of Kenosha-area restaurants called the Dine and Donate for Degrees Give Back Series from Monday, May 12 through June 16.

A portion of sales made from participating restaurants will be sent back to the Mahone Foundation in support of scholarships for first-generation students in financial need.

"The Dine and Donate for Degrees movement is one way that we can give back and show our appreciation for the work that the Mahone Foundation and the Mahone family have done for the community," said General Manager of Waterfront Warehouse Desiree Britt, who is credited by the foundation for kickstarting the fundraiser. "A community of more than 25 restaurants coming together for the future of young deserving students is enough for us to say 'yes!'"

The Mahone Foundation was founded in 1999; it works to provide educational opportunities for deserving youth. Along with the fundraiser, the foundation is also having their signature Reaching for Rainbows "Pursuit of Excellence" gala held on Friday, May 9 at Carthage College. This event scholarships from the Mahone Foundation, Herzing University and Carthage are given to high school student from Kenosha and Racine.

President of Visit Kenosha Dennis DuChene said the Dine and Donate for Degrees event creates opportunity to support local businesses and a local nonprofit at the same time.
