Marquette's Tyler Kolek wins first NBA title with New York Knicks
CBS 58 SAN ANTONIO, Texas (CBS 58) -- The New York Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday, June 13 to capture the Larry O'Brien Trophy.
Kolek is the seventh former Marquette player to win an NBA ring, joining names such as Dwyane Wade, Doc Rivers and Butch Lee. Juan Toscano-Anderson was the most recent, winning with the Golden State Warriors in 2022.
The guard averaged 4.4 points and 2.7 assists in 62 games during his sophomore season and appeared in eight playoff games, though he did not see the floor in the Finals.
Kolek notably played a larger role in December's Emirates NBA Cup campaign, helping the Knicks win the 2025 Cup. He came off the bench in the Dec. 16 Cup Final in Las Vegas against the same Spurs squad they would ultimately face in the NBA Finals, scoring a key 14 points with 5 assists and 5 rebounds as New York rallied from a fourth-quarter deficit.
He finished December scoring a career-high 20 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves, to go along with 11 rebounds and 8 assists.
