'Mass Deportation Now' signs on display at Milwaukee RNC spark conversation
MILWAUKEE (CBS58) – Calls for stricter borders and mass deportation were on display at the Republican National Convention Wednesday night. As Republicans are trying to come together, it's confusing for some after Usha Vance spoke about her parents immigrating to the United States from India.
Wednesday night signs saying, "Mass Deportation Now" could be seen in the crowd as delegates chanted "send them back."
Immigration is not a new hot topic for Trump and his supporters, back in 2016, Former President Trump campaigned heavily on illegal immigration and building a wall along the southern border.
Illinois Delegate Kathleen Abbate says we have to get the border under control
"We have almost 10 million people that came from over the border in the last three years alone under Biden and they're running around. Half of them are criminals or maybe we don't even know because they're not vetted," said Abbate.
Alondra Garcia is a second-grade bilingual teacher, she says Republicans have the wrong idea about immigrants.
"They think that doing this will solve all the problems. That is not true that is false information [Trump] he's not thinking with the perspective of how immigrants have helped the economy. We know immigrants pay taxes and if we remove all immigrants and create mass deportation the economy is just going to plumate," said Garcia.
On Thursday night, Trump will speak for the first time since the assassination attempt and is expected to address his thoughts on the border.
