Memory Cafés to support community members dealing with memory loss
WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Bridges Library System has rolled out its 2024 Memory Café schedule, aiming to support individuals in the Milwaukee area experiencing early-stage dementia, mild memory loss or cognitive impairment.
This year's program includes three new locations, expanding the initiative's accessibility and community impact. Memory Cafés will offer social gatherings at various libraries across the system, with the goal being to provide a nurturing environment for those affected and their care partners.
Spanning 21 libraries, the project will host a total of 72 Memory Cafés. These events are designed as safe, inclusive social gatherings, allowing participants to engage in activities, share experiences and foster connections. The Bridges Library System noted in a Wednesday, Jan. 10 press release that they work with local aging and disability resource centers and the Alzheimer’s Association Wisconsin Chapter to facilitate these sessions.
Details of the 2024 schedule reveal monthly meetings across six project areas, including new locations in Johnson Creek, Muskego and New Berlin. Meetings are scheduled at different times and days to cater to diverse needs.
