Menomonee Falls 4-year-old battling leukemia becomes Make-A-Wish Wisconsin's 9,000th wish granted
MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A big day for Make-A-Wish Wisconsin and an even bigger one for a four-year-old from Menomonee Falls, Cozzy Kolbeck.
"This gives you so much joy and hope to look forward to," said Cozzy's Mom, Irene Kolbeck.
Cozzy's wish came true right in his own backyard on Thursday, Oct. 23.
"I remember so many times in the hospital with Cosmas we would talk about his wish and how you know, when this is all done, we're going to come up with a beautiful wish and it can be granted," said Irene Kolbeck.
Cozzy has leukemia and after spending around six months in the hospital for treatment, his one wish was to run free and play in his backyard.
"Cosmas loves being active and playing outside, so we knew that was what would be good for him," said Cozzy's Dad, Andrew Kolbeck.
To make Cozzy's wish come true, Make-A-Wish Wisconsin built a playset in his backyard.
"Illnesses' like leukemia, I mean, it just steals time away," said Forrest Doolen with Make-A-Wish Wisconsin. "It takes away a child's childhood and so to be able to get outside and play and just simply be a four-year-old is going to be so healthy for him."
It’s a wish that’s extra special not only for Cozzy's family, but the foundation, as Cozzy's wish marks the 9,000th to come true.
"It's just it's mind blowing, because we know the difference a wish makes," said Doolen. "There's nothing better than a wish come true."
Giving the family hope and Cozzy a whole lot of fun as he continues to heal.
"I feel like with Cosmas, he's had a lot of rare things happen to him and so this is really exciting and really special for Cosmas," said Irene Kolbeck. "Hopefully something he can look back on."
