Menomonee Falls Fire Department warns of phone scam

MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. (CBS 58) – The Menomonee Falls Fire Department says there is a phone scam going around where the caller says profits will benefit the department.

Some people have reported scammers saying they are selling school supplies or selling ads to businesses to go into a book the fire department was selling.

The fire department says it will never call anyone selling items for the department. They say the calls should be ignored.

I work for the company that provides this service and I was the one making the calls. This is not at all what we do or what the calls were about. Profits benefit the community and families by providing life saving fire safety education via the fire department. We supply the departments that we work with magnetic dry erase boards which promote fire safety education, there is no cost to the department for these boards. Departments typically hand these out for free at community events and into schools to promote awareness. My job is to do research on behalf of the departments and find five family oriented businesses that I feel would benefit being featured on these boards. They pay a sponsorship fee that features their service and also offsets production costs which is why these are free to the departments and community.

Got similar calls few days ago. I looked up the number on Google and found some reports have been filed by people about similar fire dept impersonators at https://www.whycall.me/313-346-5281.html even since few years ago. I just blocked the number. Beware of such calls, folks. They are very persistent.
